Scrapbook probably kept by Lyon G. Tyler. Contains newspaper clippings which concern politics especially the campaign of Fitzhugh Lee for governor of Virginia, the General Assembly of Virginia from December 1887-March 1888 as well as clippings concerning the College of William and Mary.

Lyon Gardiner Tyler was the son of John Tyler (1790-1862) and his second wife, Julia Gardiner Tyler. Educated at the University of Virginia, he was a lawyer, served in the Virginia House of Delegates and served as president of the College of William and Mary from 1888 to 1919. Fitzhugh Lee, grandson of Henry "Light-Horse Harry" and nephew of Robert E. Lee was Major General of the Confederate Army. After the war, he wrote about and taught the history of the South during the Civil War and wrote a biography of Robert E. Lee. In 1885-1889, he served as governor of Virginia.
